Play Ball!

So I'm a little late in creating this blog in time for 2010 Opening Day. Ce la vie. I'm a 17 year old and have been a Mets fan since the 2000 Subway Series...hard to believe that was a decade ago, huh? Well it hasn't been a very pretty one. For the first half of the decade it we entered each season with low expectations, paid washed up veterans too much money, and by seasons end our ineptitude was the laughingstock of the entire MLB. For the second half of the decade we entered each season with high expectations, paid washed up veterans too much money, and by seasons end our ineptitude was the laughingstock of the MLB. Go figure. now to be fair a healthy dosage of injuries and generic bad luck also played a role, so hopefully we can stay healthy this year and contend for a playoff spot.

A 2-3 record in the first week isn't entirely promising, but we did get solid starts from our whole rotation: each pitched over 5.1 innings and none let up more than 4 runs over that span, 3 of them getting quality starts. I'll take this pitching output anytime, we just need to get the bats rolling now. In our wins we've scored 7 and 8 runs, respectively; in our losses we've scored 6, 1, and 3 runs, and the 6 was luck as we didn't get a single RBI hit. We need to put solid pitching and solid batting together consistently if we are to succeed. I think we can do it, but I'm in the minority for thinking so. We'll see how it turns out.

Thanks for following and I hope I draw some fellow mets fans into commenting on my posts; half the fun of sports is debating them!
